Virtual Office; The Evolution Has Begun

Virtual Office; The Evolution has Begun!

In the past the term Virtual Office referred to simply secretarial services like answering the phone and typing. Maybe a little dictation and accounting would be thrown in to the mix. Then as technology progressed it became possible to answer the telephone and switch calls to individuals, just like they were in the same building. The cost of this became tolerable and so more and more executives began using out sourcing to keep cost down. At the time the name virtual was given to these tasks for lack of a better term and since it was the latest innovation at the time. Virtual actually in an internet term where multiples of people all work together from different locations. But in the whole scheme of this concept the person who was still left to heavy travel and personal contact with clients was the business owner. The only thing that the older Virtual Office did was replace the in house secretary and receptionist.

Now along comes remote meeting that takes place of travel and through telephone and internet link up a virtual meeting is now able to replace travel. But only able to replace travel within certain geographic area like the United States or Europe. These systems are costly and when coupled with the telephone call these costs can mount up. Using these systems for large meetings or keeping the systems open all the time on your computer and having a phone line open can be cost prohibitive. Therefore these systems are good if you are looking to have a meeting and then finish but to be able to work together over time is not able to be done. Also when using the telephone systems along with the computer the phone bridge is chaotic since people over talk each other and order is hard to maintain. So this type of meeting systems certainly have their short comings and limitations.

Now comes Virtual Office which bridges the gap between all of the above systems. You now are no longer restricted by geography [As long as the people have internet connections it can be used.] or cost. For a flat rate [less than the price of a daily newspaper.] anyone anywhere can meet with others anywhere on the globe and keep the system open 24 hours per day seven days per week if they wish. Now you can do anything that you can do in a physical office, virtually without any limitations. The Virtual Office system now enables large and small SOHO [Small Office/ Home Office] businesses to operate on a level playing field. This technology will now provide a solution that falls under the huge expensive "Cisco" Systems. Many companies don't have large amounts of dollars to spend so now there is a solution that can allow a smaller company to compete with larger companies. Plus even the home office can now compete globally with the big boys.

In "The World Is Flat" by Thomas Freidman he talks about being able to compete globally and that people who can't will hurt themselves in the long run. Globalization is here to stay and to be able to communicate with anyone anywhere in the world will open new markets for you to offer your goods and services.
