Introduction to Sales Mastery

 

The key to becoming a master salesperson, as with any goal, begins with mindset or mental attitude.  If you cannot influence yourself you will have difficulty influencing others.  Self influence can also be considered personal power, or the ability to motivate yourself to take action to achieve your goals.   

 

Another key element to achieving sales mastery is visualization.  Visualization is a technique that is used by many professional athletes and successful business owners however; anyone can utilize the power of visualization to achieve any goal or desire, including sales people.  The visualization technique involves mental role playing with as much detail as possible.  It's like creating a mental movie of exactly what you want to happen and you are the star of the movie.  The more detail and emotion you can generate in your mental movie, the more powerful and effective the visualization technique will be.  The emotion involved in your visualization, or mental movie, are the feelings you would feel if it was taking place.  Put yourself in the experience of it actually happening.  Example, you have a prospect that you are presenting your product or service to, so your mental movie would include every aspect and detail you could think of in the selling process.  What will you say to the prospect?  How will the prospect respond?  How will you feel when the prospect says yes, signs the order, and pays you?  How excited will you be?  Who will you tell about your selling success?  How excited will they be for you?  What will you buy?  These are some of the details that must be in your mental movie for the visualization technique to be the most effective.  Finally, you must believe it.  If you have any doubt of your visualization manifesting in your reality then it won't.  "Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve."

 

The master salesperson is also goal or outcome oriented.  Their goal is specific.  They have a purpose or reason for why they must achieve their goal. They have a detailed plan for achieving their goal and they are constantly evaluating their results to see if their actions are getting them closer to, or further away, from their goal. 

 

They key element to achieving any goal is the purpose or reason for achieving the goal.  What will accomplishing your goal give you?  What will it mean to you?  When you have compelling enough reasons for why you want something you can always figure out how get it.  You can probably remember a time when you wanted something really bad.  You had a burning desire for a certain outcome.  You got excited thinking about it and how great it would make you feel.  You didn't know how you were going to get it you just knew that you wanted it and you had to have it.  And somehow, someway, you got it.  That's the same mindset you must have in the selling process to truly be successful.
